With passion in your home: how to decorate your living room in a block of flats?

Passion Piece - living room 12

Living in a block of flats may give you a really hard time thinking how to decorate its interior not to clutter the rooms and preserve them functional. I faced many such challenges, especially while decorating my living room to make it a perfect place for some relaxation, as well as to make it a suitable spot for family and friends gatherings.

I decided on delicate, subdued color schemes which are accompanied with a slightly more lively colored decorations introducing a little bit more cheerfulness into the whole interior.

The walls are painted with the use of two shades of gray, one wall is a little bit darker (Beckers Designer Colour – Stony Beach) and three remaining walls are covered with a little bit lighter shade of the earlier mentioned gray (Beckers Designer Colour – Luna) with white ceiling (Śnieżka – white latex paint). These color schemes are very elegant and don’t need to be boring at all, especially if you accompany them with some contrasting colors. The floors are covered with floorboards resembling the shade of Polish oak tree.

Such a prepared base became a starting point for a slow and careful process of furnishing the living room. I decided on Kada, a furniture collection proposed by BRW. The furniture I chose wasn’t expensive and the pieces present themselves nicely. However, the pieces of furniture weren’t deprived of some flaws from the very beginning. They were damaged here and there, it happens when the furniture is covered with veneer. Still the price is adequate to quality. Despite all these inconveniences I truly think that brown fits grays well. I chose a large three-door chest-of-drawers with a TV set standing on its top. I also decided to take an enclosed rack and a glass display cabinet to store my books.

Opposite the TV set is placed a beautiful and comfortable corner sofa belonging to the Sotelo II collection (BRW), which now offers a greater variety of colors than last spring. The gray seating is accompanied with some more lively colored accents such as colorful cushions and a blanket. In front of the corner sofa there is a neat and modern coffee table (Ikea – VITTSJÖ ) characterized by an interesting design. The coffee table is very functional, as it may be used as one whole or as two separate coffee tables depending on one’s needs. Under the coffee table you can probably notice an interesting rug, having different tints depending which side you are looking at (once it’s lighter, once it’s darker, unfortunately the table covers this effect). On the coffee table appeared some pink accents such as a decorative vase (Ikea), a candle (Pepco) and a mat (Bodzio). Above the corner sofa there is a stunning painting presenting colorful peonies (Bimago), on the adjacent wall hangs a shelf belonging to Kada collection on which you can notice some ornaments bought in Jysk (flowers in a vase, some framed pictures and a clock).

Besides the relaxation area, one cannot do without the dining space, too. The table out of Bernardin collection was also bought in BRW and just like in the case of Kada furniture it was damaged in a few spots. It’s a round table, however I enlarged it with an extra board placed in the middle, so that it became more oval and thanks to this shape more family members and other guests can sit together at the table. The imperfections of the table are covered with a simple and elegant gray tablecloth (Home&You), besides this one can notice a metal tray in the middle (Kik) and a potted flower on its side. I matched the table with some elegant and comfortable navy blue chairs (Ikea – HENRIKSDAL).

I used delicate white nets and matching heavy pink curtains to decorate the window space. I should also mention a few other details such as an elegant chandelier with lots of decorative crystals, as well as the lighting, just next to the windows, which is hidden in the ceiling and can be used when it’s too dark in the table area. On the walls there are hung some other decorations such as a stylish icon made of wood coming from an old church choir, as well as a cross depicting Stations of the Cross. Besides this the old and damaged door was painted with off-white paint, the same color was used to renovate an old windowsill.

Despite placing all these pieces of furniture and equipment the room is still spacious and pleases my eyes.

See you around!

Yours,

Passion Piece
