Like every year, around this time, Fat Thursday is just around the corner. It’s one of my favorite occasions to forget about my diet and things I should or I shouldn’t do for a moment. It’s also a day, during which one could find all kinds of treats on our tables, mainly donuts and angel wings, which invariably bring back pleasant memories of my childhood and my home filled with the scent of various baked goods. Last year, I shared a recipe for fast donuts with you, which are a perfect alternative for all those of you, who don’t have much time for experiments in the kitchen. Whereas this year, I’d like to present you a recipe for angel wings according to Ewa Wachowicz. These cookies are a little bit more time-consuming to prepare, but they will please not only the palates, but also the eyes of those you serve them to.
Ingredients:
- 400 g of flour
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 8 egg yolks
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon of milk
- 1 glass of spirit (a small one)
- lard for frying
- icing sugar
Time of preparation:
- around 1,5 hours
Preparation:
Sift flour, next add some sugar. Put everything on pastry board. Make a hole in the flour mixed with sugar, break the eggs and add egg yolks, place everything in the earlier prepared hole. Chop the ingredients with a knife until eggs start mixing with flour and start resembling little dumplings, make a hole in the mixture again, add warm butter, pour milk and spirit.
Knead the dough slowly, when it becomes smooth form a ball out of it. Leave such a prepared dough on the pastry board for around 20 minutes. Cover the ball with a bowl so that it doesn’t become dry. After this time divide the dough into halves and sprinkle them with lots of flour. Next, roll them out thinly.
When you roll your dough well, cut it into 3 cm wide stripes, next divide them into around 15 cm rhombus. Cut each piece in the middle and thread one end through it. Repeat the same actions with the other end of your dough. Fry such prepared angel wings in a big pan using lard. Cookies should be fried at high temperature, so that they could turn gold quickly. Fry the angel wings on both sides, you can use a fork or a stick (used to make shashlik) to turn them around. After frying, put your cookies on a paper towel to drain them out of unnecessary fat. Serve on a big plate, to make your angel wings look better, you can sprinkle them with some icing sugar at the end. Bon Appetit!

See you around!
Yours,
Passion Piece
