The weekly interview: Emy Wagdy Walker

Passion Piece -Emy Wagdy Walker cover

FLYING FREE UP IN THE SKY…

Life is like a river, which keeps flowing continually, churning everything it encounters on its way. This river doesn’t only pulsate with life, but it’s also the same changeable. What seems to be an attractive dream and an idea for the future at its spring, coming closer to its influx and even many kilometers before we grow and broaden our minds and those experiences shape us into new people, so that our initial desires change.

Each stage of life is characterized by different rules, since on each stage we are slightly different, we are slightly more or less experienced, slightly more or less confused.

It’s good to listen to our own intuition to make changes in our lives in a smart and thoughtful way, so that at the end of the day we don’t regret our decisions and we have the most important people by our side. Since there comes a time when solo traveling becomes less attractive than traveling with a companion, and later on we prefer to travel in a bigger family group.

I’m pleased to introduce you to my today’s interviewee – Emy Wagdy Walker – a happy woman, mother and wife, who knows how to reconcile her family and professional life, continually learning and developing and describing all these on her blog.

Passion Piece: Could you tell my readers a few words about yourself?

Emy: I’m Emy as my family and friends call me. I’m originally from Egypt married to a supportive LOVING British man. I live between England and the Middle East. I’m a blogger, entrepreneur and soon to be mommy.

Passion Piece: As a little girl you wanted to fly with the birds, later on you dreamt of following the career of a flight attendant and you made it! How has this job influenced you, your mind and the way you perceive the world?

Emy: It has impacted me in a very good way. It opened my mind and eyes on different cultures, perspectives and things I didn’t know they existed. It developed some skills like solo traveling and exploring more. It also taught me to never be judgmental to any new experience without first trying or at least seeing and reading about it.

Traveling to new cultures and countries made me a global citizen that I can cope to any new experience and situation and accept the other person as is, because there is no right or wrong culture, it depends on the human being and how he/she responds to the surroundings and triggers.

Passion Piece: Was it the right trigger for you to start writing about your travels and other issues that were close to your heart?

Emy: I love this question! Yes, it was the main trigger. My very first flight ever was to Nepal in December 2007, and back then phones and technology were not in their peak like right now. So, I had to use my old camera to go around and take pictures in the monkey temple and Pashupatinath Temple. But what impacted me the most was visiting the Kumari or the goddess, and the experience was unlike anything I have ever seen. Since then it was a dream to document my travels, my experience and the albums I created from around the world.

Passion Piece: You decided to run a blog Emy’s suitcase. The name is quite intriguing… what does it stand for?

Emy: Thank you! Many people like the name as well. Emy is my name, suitcase is a symbol of everything that you would like to have, take, find with you in any destination, experience, or even a situation

And also, it is maybe a comfort blanket to anyone who has a background in aviation. You can’t imagine what we used to pack in our suitcases for some layovers. Moreover, we females – and you would agree-especially me love bags, purses and anything that may contain pieces of us or our life. Exactly like my suitcase, these are the stories, the experiences, the pictures, the travels from all around the world, and not only that, things that motivate me and empower me, things I do need in my life to carry on like mindset and lifestyle.

Passion Piece: What can your readers find there? Is it aimed at a particular audience?

Emy: Yes, it’s aimed to everyone who is open-minded, goal and healthy lifestyle oriented. Anyone who is searching for an inspiration or even an advice. My blog is light hearted and yet in depth, you can read it anywhere and everywhere. It’s not just about me it’s about any person who may and have had similar experiences in life.

In my blog, I talk about not only my travels and hacks and tricks, but also about my lifestyle as an athlete who has been influenced by sports and how that changed me for the better healthier physical and mental version of myself.

Also, my mindset category which is aimed mainly towards building a supportive and organic community where we guide and inspire each other to live and enjoy our life mentally, financially and spiritually.

Passion Piece: Even though you dreamt of being a flight attendant, you decided to quit this career path. How did you find out that you needed such a dramatic change in your life?

Emy: I have not quit, I was made redundant due to covid-19 hit in early 2020.

Even though, I have known at some level for the last 6 years that flying was something I didn’t want to keep doing professionally, I didn’t have the courage to leave. Soon after the decision was made, and it was the best decision made for me as my life changed radically in a fantastic way ever since.

If you ask me why? I needed to do something else with my life. With age, people develop, change and evolve and during my soul searching journey I was reading and learning and discovering new things about myself. I studied many other things and got involved in other projects and needed to grow and build myself further and with flying that was not possible. Because as much as it was so much fun, it was so exhausting and time consuming. Also, after so many years of flying my dreams have changed and I wanted to enjoy a family life and have my own thing.

Passion Piece: What’s your current occupation? How does it correspond to a person you’ve become during all those years?

Emy: Right now I’m between building my blogging brand and network marketing. I claim to be a creative person and I have an eye for designs that is quite a reflection of my personality.

Passion Piece: What dream goals would you like to accomplish?

Emy: I have many dreams. Every day I have a new dream. Small dreams, big dreams and great dreams. On the personal level, my dream is to maintain having a happy healthy family and raise kids with core values to help their communities and be happy with what they have achieved in their lives. On the practical side, I want to grow a successful business and inspire others that no matter how or when you start you can achieve what you want. And finally, I’m dreaming of creating a legacy and of peace all over the world. It might sound a cliché but it is one of my dreams.

Passion Piece: What do you do in your free time? Is there a secret power you’ve got?

Emy: I meditate, I’m a spiritual person, so I need to connect with universe and seek guidance. I also, read in my free time. I love books and I got that passion from my family.

Passion Piece: Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

Emy: A successful business woman with a successful growing business. A healthy happy wife and a successful healthy mother to healthy smart kids.

Passion Piece: Thank you very much for this truly inspiring conversation and I can’t wait for new adventures appearing on Emy’s suitcase in the future.

See you around!

Yours,

Passion Piece
