I am Polish. I am proud of the place I was born. I am proud of the traditions and values I was brought up in. I am proud of the history of my country. I am proud of the bravery which has never died in the nation. I am proud of the fact that Poles always find a way to unite and to fight shoulder to shoulder for matters which are important to them. For freedom. They have been fighting for freedom. However one looks at this word, it has just one meaning, which undoubtedly cannot be changed for one’s own needs in a way it affects individuals not only when it comes to the point of conflict, the one emerging at first glance, bat also when it comes to all other cases related to people living in a country, whose authorities deprive them of basic rights to decide about themselves and about their own families.
Poland is assumed to be tolerant. People want to live there in peace with themselves and the surrounding them world. Of course, I’m not talking about a tolerance for extreme behaviors, which are simply silly, despite the fact that the ones manifesting their points of view are truly convinced that they belong to the most oppressed group in their society. I’m talking about the tolerance for behaviors which are normal and attitudes which don’t offend religious views and ethical beliefs of other people. I’m truly convinced of the fact that there’s always a chance to find that line of communication without appearing to be a buffoon. But to the point!
Poland is proud, as it consists of proud people who love themselves and the place they live in. One cannot be that cruel to deprive them of that?
There have been numerous strikes in the streets of a great number of cities all around the country. All that despite the pandemic still taking its toll. The citizens decided to voice their objection to the current situation.
Women and their supporters have gone out on the streets of many Polish cities, as the government introduced a new law, which doesn’t only threaten health, but also human life, not to mention dignity. Isn’t it that all citizens are worthy and should always receive the right support from the country they love so much? Don’t misunderstand me, I’m definitely not the advocate of abortion, as everyone should take responsibility for one’s own deeds, but is everything as simple as it seems to be? I am strongly convinced of the fact that as long as we or our close ones aren’t directly affected by a given problem, it’s very easy for us to judge other people and the motifs they were led by. What if we also experience difficult times in our lives? What have seemed to be so immoral, may occur to be the only alternative left for us. I am for choice. I am for free choice which will be compatible with my conscience and with my beliefs. At the end of the day I will be judged for the way I have lived my life and not for what I have pretended to be in front of others. A woman should have the right to make a choice. I am for abortion in three basic cases: when the mother’s life is in danger, when the fetus is damaged and rape. No one can force all women to heroism in a country which just after giving birth to a baby forgets about the families struggling with keeping alive terminally ill children. A country which doesn’t really support parents neither financially nor spiritually when in many cases the treatment, rehabilitation and other child’s special needs are more than an average citizen can afford, oh well, even wealthy families would find it very costly. Apart from financial issues, some women and their families are not able to handle the pressure not only emotionally, but also in any other way. Each pregnancy is a huge burden for a woman’s body and she cannot be treated just as a living incubator, only to prove that someone is right or to intorduce someone’s psychotic ideas of citizens’ needs and wishes, which in most cases are nowhere close to reality.
The whole families have gone out on the streets to fight for freedom of choice. Grandmothers, mothers, daughters, granddaughters. These are not people who desire anyone’s death. These are women who dream of being treated seriously, just like men, taking into account how they feel like in a given situation and whether they are able to handle such a huge burden. For sure, there are families which are strong enough to be heroic. However, there are also families whose shoulders won’t stand such a burden. One needs to be aware of possible pros and cons before agreeing on being heroic, no one can be forced to such an attitude. No one wants women to give birth to terminally ill and seriously handicapped children just to leave them in different health centers, where in many cases, they will certainly be deprived of love and care or they will suffer due to their condition and retardation, maybe even without being aware of anything that happens around them. Women have also been supported by men. Grandfathers, husbands, sons, grandsons. I emphasize the number of generations and the fact that these are loving families which don’t desire anyone’s death, the only thing they desire is the right for choice.
As I’ve already mentioned before, all these protests are caused not only by the issue of abortion and they don’t promote killing innocent beings. They are the result of a deep dissatisfaction which has grown in the nation for years.
A good leader won’t call his supporters to fight against the citizens who present different viewpoints or religious beliefs. A good leader will call for reconciliation and finding a common language. United we stand, divided we fall. Poles are in agreement that the new abortion law was the final straw and they should voice their opinions. It’s very simple to stay in peace with everyone, just be more tolerant and try to notice something more than just the tip of your own nose. If you don’t support abortion, just don’t undergo it, but it’s none of your business if another woman decides otherwise. If you support abortion, don’t impose your opinion on people who don’t agree with you. Decide according to your conscience, and not according to someone else’s conscience, especially if this person doesn’t matter for you at all.
I am Polish. I am proud of who I am and of where I live. I love my country. I love Poland.
See you around!
Yours,
Passion Piece
I love this. You should always be proud of who you are. I hope I can visit Poland one day.
You should be proud of who you are and you should never be afraid to shout it from the roof tops!!
I was just thinking along the same lines this morning. Just because abortions are allowed does not mean I have to agree with it or practice it.
Why wouldn't you be proud! I looooooove the Polish culture and i can't wait to visit Poland
Poland seems like such a lovely country. It's great that you feel proud of where you're from!
What a great post. This topic is not talked about enough. Love to read about you and your pride.
