I’ve already had a chance to talk with several artists associated with the music scene of my hometown Jaworzno. All of these personalities made me feel proud, as they have done a good job representing everything what is important for me, the place where I was brought up and the place I come from. After each interview I willingly come back to their works and I keep track of their future creative activities, as in a very special way, they’re close to my heart. I’ve recently listened to a piece of music, which captivated me not only with its honesty, simplicity, but also depth thanks to its mature text … while humming this song, I had a feeling that I wanted to get to know more about its author, who turned out to be an artist living in my hometown, whose roots go back much further and they could be felt while watching the video clip, as well as listening carefully to the earlier mentioned song. I came to a conclusion that I’d really love to carry out an interview with him, as I believe that one day he will rock the Polish music scene.
Today, I’m happy to introduce you to Sargis Davtyan – a young and totally modest vocalist, who has stolen my heart with his crystal voice and maturity, which he presented while creating his first song.
Passion Piece: Could you tell my readers a few words about yourself?
Sargis: My name’s Sargis Davtyan, I’m 17 years old and I’ve got quite a few objectives to achieve. I attend one of the high schools in Jaworzno. I’ve lived in Poland for 15 years. I was just 2, when my family moved here from Armenia, my homeland.
Passion Piece: You’re a young, talented, and most importantly promising vocalist. How did your adventure with music start?
Sargis: My greatest passion is music, and my adventure with it started as early as in the first class of my primary school, when I took part in my first singing contest. Music is an integral part of our lives, it accompanies us almost everywhere and it helps us to understand the surrounding us world better. That’s why, I decided that I’d also like to create music, and in this special way, help other people.
Passion Piece: Where do you draw your inspirations from? Who would you say your greatest musical influence is?
Sargis: My inspirations are people and surrounding me nature – they make me really think – these are two aspects, which make me create. My biggest musical authority is Charles Aznavour – a musician, who just swept people off their feet with his honesty and simplicity. He never pretended to be someone else. Maybe the fact that he was also Armenian, who lived outside the country, makes him even closer to me.
Passion Piece: You’ve already recorded your first song. I must admit that I’m still really impressed not only with its mature text, but also with the way of singing, which highlights natural values of your voice. How did works on this project look like?
Sargis: My first song titled ‘Powiedz’ – is the fruit of young people’s work. One night before bedtime a certain melody emerged in my head. I got to really like it, so I started humming this tune. I didn’t want to forget the melody, so I ran to find a notebook in which I always note down my songs, I grabbed a pen and I began to write the text. After two months, I decided to present the effect of my work to a friend, who could help me with recording the song. Oliwier collected musicians and in this way we started recording the final version of my musical composition, then we worked on the video clip. We released the video on the 29th of March. Finally, after years of singing other artists’ works, I can create my own songs, and consequently express myself in them.

Passion Piece: What do you think a guarantee of success of a given song is? What are you going to surprise your fans with?
Sargis: I don’t have much experience with creating music, so one could say I’m just making my first steps. I think that while composing a given piece of music one should follow one’s heart to be honest not only with oneself, but also not to pretend to be someone else. Of course, I’m currently working on some new songs.
Passion Piece: You’ve recently taken part in a cult TV program titled ‘Szansa na Sukces’. What was meeting Natalia Kukulska and Adam Sztaba like?
Sargis: Meeting Natalia Kukulska and Adam Sztaba was an unforgettable experience for me. I was in the studio, in which the program ‘Szansa Na Sukces Opole 2019’ was recorded, and I was waiting together with other participants for the guests of the show to start the auditions. I was quite stressed. Suddenly, I noticed a person, whose face was covered by a tripod with a camera placed on it. It turned out to be Natalia Kukulksa – in the blink of an eye, I was overcome with an incredible thrill. Artists, who we usually watch on TV or hear on the radio, stand next to you out of the blue, totally unexpectedly. If you had a chance to watch this program, you already know that I was a prize-winner, I didn’t get the first place, but I received special attention of Natalia and Adam, what’s more I’ll have a chance to be one of the performers during a concert – Życia mała garść – which will be dedicated to Jarosław Kukulski and Anna Jantar. The event will take place on the 26th of May in Warsaw Sports and Show Arena ‘COS Torwar’. I’ll have a chance to sing alongside such great artists as Kayah, Kuba Badach, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Igor Herbut, Daria Zawiałow and many more. I’m truly happy about that.
Passion Piece: Besides music you also deal with acting. Would you like to combine these two types of art together in the future?
Sargis: Yes, acting is another pastime I like. Thanks to it I can not only free myself, but also open myself to the surrounding me world. That’s why, I’m getting to know myself even better. I belong to two theatrical groups, the first one is called ‘Nazwa in Progress’, with which we staged a spectacle titled ‘Hydrozagadka’, and the second group is ‘Indygo’ under Danuta Noszczyńska’s direction, with whom we are currenly preparing a play titled ‘Monika from Czerniakowska, a very sad comedy’, and its premiere will take place on the 12th of May. In the future, I’ll willingly come back on the theater stage for sure.
Passion Piece: Have you got any other passions besides performing on stage?
Sargis: Besides art I also love gardening. Touching the soil makes me calm. In my garden I grow my own herbs and I look after some fruit trees – such work makes me really happy.
Passion Piece: Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
Sargis: In 10 years’ time it’s sure that I’d like to be still close to music, give concerts and complete music studies. And who knows? Maybe even take part in the Eurovision Song Contest?
Passion Piece: Thank you very much for this truly inspiring conversation and I wish you good luck during the concert in May and during your future work on your new songs.
Sargis: Thank you very much greetings Sargis Davtyan. 🙂
I hope that this interview made you interested in following the future of this artist, who is definitely a rough diamond on the quite commercialized Polish music scene. What do you value most in the singers you love listening to?
See you around!
Yours,
Passion Piece

I truly respect the talent of a good voice and just music in general. Probably because I have ZERO musical talent myself.
