With passion in your home: how to decorate your bedroom in a block of flats?

Passion Piece - How to deocrate a bdroom 1

A few months ago I finally managed to move into my dream apartment, and all these against all the odds caused by the pandemic and all the formal difficulties, which I had to face during the first steps of my self-reliance journey. A few days ago I also published some photos of my bedroom on Instagram and I was pleasantly surprised with the positive private messages I received commenting its decor. Decorating such a small space isn’t easy, but it can certainly bring lots of joy.

Bedroom is a room which was created in my imagination quite fast. Its current look is the effect of a few weeks’ long search of ideal solutions for myself, a person who appreciates the right space and wants to avoid cluttering it with unnecessary furniture and decorations. I’d like to mention that even if it’s almost finished, it still requires some final touches, but about that in a moment.

As it often happens, when the previous owners of the apartment moved out, my eyes could see a real picture of the challenges I had to face. For example, I made this room significantly bigger in my imagination and I hoped to decorate it more spectacularly. Was it really possible? Yeah, I know I must have exaggerated it a bit. All in all, I had to resign from all these king-size beds and I had to forget about Joanna Krupa’s like wardrobe, but being a teacher made me develop MacGyver’s skills, oh well, he could learn a lot from me… but to the point.

The renovation had to be started with painting the walls and changing the floorboards. I decided to choose the color pallets proposed by Beckers. From the very beginning I wanted to have one wall in contrast with others, actually, in contrast would be nothing to say, I really wanted the wall to stand out. I was amazed with Cleopatra (the interior paint – Designer Color). Many people doubted my choice and were convinced that in such a small space it would bring the opposite effect to what I desired to obtain. They claimed it would overwhelm everything in sight. Of course, I was still certain that it would be a good idea to use this color, not only because it’s trendy and this or that blogger had already had such a wall in their homes, but because of the fact that such an intense color would give some character to the whole composition, and just believe me, there’s nothing worse than boredom in your own apartment. Despite the fact I was convinced deeply of the rightness of my choice, I bough a few samples of some other paints too… and voilà! Never buy a paint before checking it unless it’s Cleopatra, which will never let you down. The rest of the walls and radiators were painted with another paint color proposed by Beckers, namely Angel Wings, which occurred to match the contrasting wall. It’s not pure white, which would certainly be boring, but light cream, which isn’t too bright for its turquoise background. The door and windowsill were painted with Tikkurila paint, obtained out of a paint mixer, the off-white covered browns which no longer matched my dream interior. With such amazing walls I desired to have panels whose color was Polish oak… Attention for all of you who want to do the makeover of your apartment! It’s good to see panels in a natural light, which won’t distort the real color of a given product. From my personal experience, I can say that I chose much darker panels in the shop than the ones which were put in my apartment, all this to my great surprise. Hopefully, the floor still presents itself really well.

So far so good, but what kind of furniture should one choose having such colors in one’s bedroom? I had to make a little effort, as at the beginning I was planning to buy a bed with a white wooden frame, but having the small size of my bedroom in mind I decided to resign from this idea. Instead I chose a modern, but still classy bed. I was truly lucky to find a shop which I’ll be recommending to everyone till the end of my life or even one day longer, namely my home town shop Dr Materac, whose services are truly professional and thanks to them I could create my perfect bed. Despite my initial thoughts I decided to choose a gray bed with a beautifully quilted headboard which adds some extra elegance to the whole room. Modern and in a good style, to make things even better it’s very functional, as under the mattress one can find a hidden spacious container for some extra bedding or something that we don’t use too often. Tessa bed was totally customized according to my needs and wishes, both when it comes to its practical and aesthetic aspects. The material covering the whole structure is waterproof and resistant to pets. The headboard was elevated, which made the whole furniture look more grandly. The front of the bed was slightly rounded which made the whole construction a little bit lighter and its silver legs match the bedroom fitting. And of course, the most important task was to find a comfortable mattress for my new bed. After testing some of them, I chose a spring mattress which turned to be a grand idea… but not at the very beginning. During the first nights I couldn’t sleep and all my body hurt me, but from what I had heard it should be like that… Fortunately, my body got used to this change quite fast and now I sleep like a baby, but not as long as I would like to. When it comes to the bedspread, I decided to choose classic white. I bought it at home&you during one of the sales they had. I also wanted to make it more lively so I decorated everything with colorful cushions which present themselves beautifully and were bought for pennies. It’s worth visiting local supermarkets form time to time, as they offer nice products for an affordable price. After placing such a big bed (160cmx200cm) in my bedroom, there was very little space left. That’s why, I needed a truly functional wardrobe with sliding door and I found a perfect one with two different fronts, the first one full gloss white and the second one a mirror, quite useful in the bedroom.

All right, we are done almost with everything, but are you sure? Each interior is really “done” also by its decorations. I decided to hang a poster in a silver frame above the bed, which was ordered from Bimago, their painting also decorates my living room, but that part of my house will be described another time. Night butterfly, as it’s the name of this contemporary art piece, matches the contrasting wall, as well as other silver elements in the room. What’s more, the ethereal woman depicts elusiveness of dreams very well. On the opposite wall I hanged a holy painting, which I received from my colleague, who is a priest and who was invited to my house warming party. I like thinking that this picture exercises protection over me during the sleep. The white windowsill was decorated with a figure of a woman, which presents my character really well, intelligence with a little bit of stylishness or at least I hope so! Bodzio shop offers lots of decorations that will suit every pocket. The windows were decorated with white net curtains and light mint curtains with a silver sparkling thread matching the rest of the ornaments. Each bedroom needs a good lighting that is not only functional, but also aesthetic. I placed the overhead light on the ceiling bought in a supermarket, and a bedside lamp is still waiting for a gracious night table. I got this beautiful lamp from my friends and it was just a wonderful choice, especially because they hadn’t seen my apartment before. The floorboards were made more cozy thanks to two little rugs and the door was secured with a door stopper which fitted in with the interior just ideally.

I love this place and I found a passion in myself for planning and decorating different kinds of interiors. Unfortunately, my apartment has just a certain umber of rooms and I can’t do much more for now. Maybe you need some help in decorating your interior?

See you around!

Yours,
