Helping with passion: Heart for an Amazon

Passion Piece- Heart for an Amazon 5

Cancer is a disease which has annihilated countless human lives at an alarming rate throughout centuries. It’s true that in the 21st century the prognosis can be more optimistic, but not everywhere and not in all cases. Prophylaxis is important, however, in my experience I know that I’m seriously neglecting it, thinking that maybe it’ll all be okay and maybe I’ll get lucky. Our lifestyle and demands of our jobs don’t encourage us to have a bit closer look at our health, nay, we frequently decide just to ignore all the worrying signals. Sometimes one cannot avoid getting ill and it’s good to do everything to come back to a more or less normal life from before the disease.

The Amazons are a fantastic example of such an attitude. These are the women, who due to taking the fight to cancer had to undergo a mastectomy, an operation which has changed their bodies forever. However, it’s not the most important, the most vital thing is that it was the right decision which had to be made. Unfortunately, during the recuperation time they may experience some inconveniences, such as pain, bruising on the skin, discomfort caused by healing wounds and some comfort can be brought to them by the heart-shaped pillows, which are being sewn in Jaworzno within the action ‘Heart for an Amazon’. I had a chance to take part in this event last week and I have to admit that it was a nicely spent time.

I have no artistic talent, but fortunately, one doesn’t really need to be gifted in this field. It’s enough to follow the tips given by a person carrying out workshops, who is more than willing not only to guide you on how to start your work, but also on how to deal with all your craftwork difficulties. The whole event was attended by a few energetic women, who managed to create a pile of unique pillows which are already waiting for their new owners, and all these happened during an hour and a half long workshop. Everything that you need to be equipped with is some old cloth and smiles, the rest will work out on its own! The process of creating such useful pillows demands nothing more than four basic steps: drawing a heart on the cloth using a ready-made template in two copies, cutting them out, sewing two halves of a heart and filling the pillow with some stuffing to give it the right shape. If you feel like spending your time in a nice company and doing something good for others we invite you to attend our meeting which takes place in Zdzisław Krudzielski’s community center in Szczakowa on the 2nd of October, 2020 at 4.30 pm. We warmly invite you to join us!

See you around!

Yours,

Passion Piece

This blog has been created with the readers in mind, the ones whose passions help them pursuing their success and self-realization … but not only! I’ll also write for those of you who feel that there is a raw potential hidden somewhere inside your true self!
