The weekly interview: Nimisha Soni

Passion Piece - Nimisha Soni

Our experiences shape our lives, thanks to them we take a particular direction, not the other. Everything, what is good, allows us to grow and enjoy the successes that we are able to achieve. Although, sometimes such a state of affairs can make us a little bit lazy. The things which we get efortlessly are usually taken for granted, but they shouldn’t be perceived as such. On the other hand, negative experiences give us sleepless nights, leave us with an awful feeling in the pit of our stomach and definitely make us, as well as our close ones sad. However, there is a little bit more to the story. We gain an incredible strngth while fighting against all odds, our flaws and weaknesses. If we are able to draw the right conclusions and we don’t repeat the same mistakes, we will emerge victorious from this battle, although with a few nasty wounds.

It often happens that we are surrouded by lots of people when we are successful in our lives, whereas when our fate puts the skids under us, suddenly we are left all alone. Even if there are still a few friends we can count on, the ones who want to help us, they often don’t know how to talk with us, as a result of which their advice is nothing more than big words that are meant just to comfort us. So what do we really need then? For sure a good word has its worth, but we also want to hear something that will change our lives for the better. In the Interent age, we can find help coming from totally unpredictable sources and places in the world, the ones we have never dreamd of before. Podcasts are a new and interesting trend, they are certainly getting more and more popular. What are podcasts? These are recordings , which we can listen to while being on our way to work, during a walk or cleaning a house. They can touch upon various topics, out of which we can choose the ones we are currently interested in.

Today, I’m really pleased to introduce you to Nimisha Soni, whose podcasts are meant not only to help listeners to overcome their everyday life problems, but also to live their lives to the fullest, living here and now, not in the past or dreaming of better future.

Passion Piece: Could you tell my readers a few words about yourself?

Nimisha: Hi! I am Nimisha Soni, Masters in Fashion by profession. Have been an entrepreneur since last 11 years and now a Podcaster too since last 2 months. I believe in evolving daily, as at every step life demands a better and stronger version of you. I am a little crazy to learn and experiment new things in life. Have developed a strong dislike towards insensitive and unkind people lately.

Passion Piece: You create Podcasts to share your thoughts on different topics. Why did you decide to voice your opinions in such a way?

Nimisha: I find Podcasts quite convenient as we can listen to them on the go, even while doing our monotonous tasks like cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. The topics I focus on are for the adults who are super absorbed with their daily lives. I have to respect the fact that they don’t have much time, but also want them to have solutions to their problems while they are busy with their schedules.

Passion Piece: How does your everyday life look like? Do you have your special daily routines?

Nimisha: Life has changed a lot over the past few months since I got married and moved to the USA. In India we have a lot of domestic help, so we do not have to worry about the daily chores. But here, I have learnt to live in a very different kind of a set up which is more independent, but also becomes too monotonous after a while.

So my daily routine used to look almost the same, till the time I had not started with my podcast. But after the Podcast, I have a lot of things to look forward to.

But whatever the routine is, I definitely need my ‘Me Time’ as now it’s more reading, more writing, creating content almost daily and finally recording it. And it doesn’t end there. Once you enter into the process there are a lot of other things involved like creating Instagram posts, building the website, etc. But the day is definitely more productive now, just the way I like it to be.

Passion Piece: Where do you look for your inspirations? What’s the most important for you while recording new pieces?

Nimisha: There is a self practiced habit of retrospecting every single day and analyzing each emotion I feel. I question myself daily about how I am feeling that particular day. And the topics I choose are related to whatever I have experienced in my own life.

The most important thing is to feel connected to the topic. I can’t talk about something until I haven’t felt it myself.

Also, if I think of my major source of positivity and optimism in life, I always look up to my grandmother who is 100 years old now, but the way she lives her life inspires me every day.

Passion Piece: What kind of challenges have you faced so far while working on new projects?

Nimisha: I am not a technical person at all. But whatever you want to do these days can’t be done without the use of technology. That’s the biggest challenge for me. For example, for starting with the podcast, apart from writing and coming up with good content, one of the most important tasks was to learn the new software where I could record and edit my voice.

But thankfully, we have YouTube tutorials for anything and everything we want to learn. So, I learnt the software online and started with the Podcast.

Passion Piece: Your Podcasts are widely available and can inspire people all around the world. Who’s your target audience?

Nimisha: I started my Podcast with an idea to help people all around the world. Whomsoever is going through a tough time in their relationship or even getting to know themselves.

While I was going through my divorce, I actually wanted to talk about my fears, stress and anxiety but had no one to talk to. We have a lot of people around us, but the people who have not gone through something are unable to relate to you and the people who have gone through it, do not like to talk about it. I try to give practical and implementable solutions to the problems we face during our tough times.

Passion Piece: What’s your greatest success so far? How do you deal with failures?

Nimisha: When I look back at the journey of my life till now, the greatest success I would consider is that I was actually able to achieve whatever I truly wished for, inspite of going through a lot personally. Whether it was starting my online business for garments and home decor or now starting with the Podcast.

I am lucky not to have seen any failures professionally, but yes, whatever small ups and downs I have ever faced have taught me not to take success to my head and failures to my heart. I feel it’s important to learn from those failures and not to repeat the same mistakes from the past.

Passion Piece: What are you truly passionate about? What do you love doing in your free time?

Nimisha: I would call myself crazy here because I want to do so much. Life is short. We are not going to live here forever, so I do not like wasting my time on thinking too much about any particular thing. If I really want to do something or learn anything new, or if I come across something which really interests me, I know how to manage my time and just do it. The hyperactive right side of my brain doesn’t let me sleep peacefully, till I do not feed it with something interesting once in a while.

I love listening to audio books while I go for long walks or cycling in my free time. Dancing is a passion since my childhood and I have won many prizes for that too. When I was in India, I loved designing home decor and garments in my manufacturing unit.

Passion Piece: Everyone has some dreams and hopes for the future. Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

Nimisha: Professionally, I definitely see myself trying many more things in the future. I want to create more useful content every week and keep helping people who can relate to the topics. I will be more than happy to keep creating the Podcast, if it helps even one of the listeners. I dream to write my own book one day. So yes, I definitely see myself doing that in the next 10 years.

Personally, I would like to read more, travel more, win over my anxiety completely and live a fearless life eventually. Gain more wisdom through the daily life lessons, so that I am able to respond rather than reacting in any given situation.

But there are a lot more things I am craving to learn right now like – doodle, paint, make and edit videos for YouTube, play tennis, continue with my Bharatnatyam lessons, etc.

Passion Piece: Which motto would you like to share with my readers?

Nimisha: In life you NEVER know.

But you NEVER give up.

When you make these two negatives meet, only then you can have a Positive life ahead.

Passion Piece: Thank you very much for this truly inspiring conversation. I hope that you’ll manage to gain everything you desire and much more!

Our today’s interviewee is a great example that where there’s a will there’s a way, even if not everything goes as planned. Let’s try to live the way we want to, as we may not get another chance. I encourage you to listen to Nimisha’s podcasts… maybe you’ll find there something for yourselves?

See you around!

Yours,

Passion Piece

Cool interview. Thanks for sharing it with us. It's funny how she wrote that life is so much different here in the states for her. That she had a lot of household help back in India. I was just talking to hubby about that and how cool it is/was when people could afford home help. I'm hoping someday to hire a cleaning lady to come a couple of times per month. Some day! :)
