Being 30 is not a sentence! You can live with that!

martin-reisch-199362

2018 will be a breakthrough year for many reasons. From my point of view, it will be related to reaching my magical 30s. This age has always seemed to be something terrifying and very distant to me. Last week, I published a picture from my friend’s 30th birthday on facebook. It’s been the first such a party this year organized by a close person. As a teenager, I always imagined this time as a kind of apocalypse, the end of youth and I thought it’s like having one foot in the grave … and you know what? I am very amused with this naive thinking now! The truth is that even if something has changed, it has only changed for better! I look better and I’m smarter than 10 years ago … what else should I expect from life? After today’s pastoral visit, and I was visited by a priest who in fact was my peer, I realized that it’s probably the best time in my life and I should use it well. What are the advantages of being young, but a more mature adult? These are some good sides, which I consider to be the most important!

  • Experience – being a little bit older than 10 years ago makes you more experienced, and no one can deprive you of your experiences. If you are smart, you’ll make a good use of them. This way you’ll avoid repeating some mistakes and you’ll look at some matters from a different angle. You’ll see that problems, which seemed to be a tip of the iceberg for you, are not as difficult as you had thought before.

  • Self-awareness – being in your teens or a young adult, you are not always aware of your needs and things which you would really like to do in your life. Being a little bit older, you can gain some distance to yourself and to the issues which you didn’t take into account while making important decisions and life choices.

  • Building relationships – it’s easier to build long lasting relationships with people and find the right second half for yourself, since you are not led by immature emotions, and you can easier notice the pearl among surrounding you stones. I’m talking both about friends and partners, as both kinds of relationships are important in our lives.

  • Changes – it’s a great time to determine yourself when it comes to professional matters. Having a few years long work experience means that you know what makes you happy, and what doesn’t. You are young enough to change your profession and to find the job which will be your passion! Believe me, it’s not worth staying in a job which makes you unhappy. It’s easier said than done … but it’s a good idea to consider some aspects related to your professional life.

  • Taking care of yourself – being 30 and more you are more aware of your body needs, and you know what is harmful to your health, and what has a beneficial influence on your organism. Take care of yourself, follow a healthy diet and do sports, it’s the key to longevity.

  • Getting distance to yourself – as the years pass you should gain some distance to yourself, both to the way you look and to other smaller shortcomings. I’ve always had problems with having the right distance to myself, but now I’ve started noticing how silly my way of thinking used to be in the past! Put on some nice clothes, take care of yourself, work on your negative sides and you’ll see everything in brighter colours.

  • Respect for life – being aware of flying time and temporary nature of your life, you gain more respect towards life and you can take care of the things which are really important for you.

  • Great time for parenthood – I’m not a parent yet, so I’m not a big authority in this matter. However, I think that it’s the right age for setting your own family and bringing up children. We are more mature and we approach certain issues and problems in a more responsible way. It makes easier for us to solve some conflicts more peacefully without unnecessary bloodshed. Children can also feel more supported by their parents, since they are more ready for responsible parenthood.

  • Learning new things – knowing your needs and interests you can start learning new things, since it’s never too late to learn something new. Don’t resign from yourself at the cost of work or your everyday duties, as one day you may regret your decisions.

The list of good sides of our ‘mature’ age is probably much longer … I’ll try to verify it during the following months. And you? Have you noticed any chances for a change in your life?

See you around!

Yours,

Passion Piece

I know what you mean. There are so many changes that come with turning 30. I think you start to realize that you're getting older and life is moving forward. I think the advice you give is great!

    • Natalia February 19, 2018 Reply

Yes, time seems to fly much faster and I realized that I really want to start a few new things in life, but besides this awareness I don't really think that anything will change when I turn 30. :)

This post is perfect for me! I'm also reaching my 30s and it's kind of scary but I loved the list of good sides of our ‘mature’ age that you made! in my case yes, I also like being more independent and doing whatever I want!

Exactly, I've got a feeling that there are more possibilities laying in front of us right now ... we will get to know about that soon :)

I love what you said about self-awareness. I think this was one of the biggest things I noticed when I turned 30 last year. It feels so good to be more self-aware of what YOU want for your life, and separate yourself from what might not be as important. I also agree 100% with taking care of yourself in your 30's! We will thank ourselves later if we start now!

Self-awareness is very important, as it helps us reach our goals and be happier in life. Thank you for your great comment! :)

i'm so glad that i found your blog post here. i recently just turned 29 and i'm waiting for the big thing coming next year, and i shall be prepared for everything good over it. :) i mean, i'm excited and totally chilled about it. but the people in my surrounding really take a lot of pressures for me to settle down and all that. it's easier said than done, so i suppose fingers crossed for all of us. :D

    • Natalia March 3, 2018 Reply

You're right, I'm also not settled down and my current career prospects are rather poor ... and the pressure may be quite big at times, but I decided to take it easy, if it's possible in my case. :) I'm turning 30 in May and I can't believe it!. Thanks for your great comment! :)

Being 30 is a milestone, I always say the older you get the more proud you should be. I mean we all see it, it's a crazy world out here, despite that, you made it through 30 years of it! Think of all the close calls and near misses. It's truly a blessing, congratulations!

    • Natalia March 3, 2018 Reply

I'm getting 30 in May, but I've already been thinking about this so called milestone. I think I'm getting more aware of my own value and this knowledge is a real blessing. :)

30s were great for me. I really found out who I was. A number doesn’t define you.

    • Natalia March 3, 2018 Reply

I totally agree with you. Besides this, the older we get, the smarter we become. :)

  11. Holly Lasha March 4, 2018 Reply

Yes...you are right for sure...but I'd still rather be 29!!!

    • Natalia March 4, 2018 Reply

Oh me too, but I can't stop time! :)

  12. Nicole March 5, 2018 Reply

When I turned 30 I become more aware of my whole self and everything I became at that point was just fine with me. I learned to become just fine with all of me and no longer care of what others thought of me.

    • Natalia March 5, 2018 Reply

I'm almost 30 and it's the time when I also decided to focus on myself rather than on people's comments on me. It seems I got to know myself much better. :)

I am still yet to reach the big 30 next year, it's kinda bittersweet but I can't wait to get to the magic number. Thank you so much for sharing this, I must get myself prepared to greet it anyway! ;)

I got quite optimistic about this turning point in my life. I'll check everything out in May. :)

Don't feel bad about being 30...it will get you down for about a day or two and then it wont make a difference.

    • Natalia April 26, 2018 Reply

I guess so, it's only a number after all! :)

  15. Laurie April 25, 2018 Reply
