Summer is certainly not a season which encourages us to work hard, on the contrary, it’s an ideal time for relax and having some rest in the circle of family and friends. How to spend your leisure time in the city? Poles have found a perfect solution – the family allotment gardens (rodzinne ogrody działkowe/ROD), which are nothing more than a defined area intended to grow fruit, vegetables and other plants or just to have rest in the fresh air.
Last week I had a chance to visit such a place, as I don’t have my own plot, which I could use freely during my free time. The family allotment gardens ‘Jutrzenka’ are situated in Mysłowice. They are a complex of well-maintained plots, you can’t really take your eyes off.
Having a closer look at the history of this place, I got to know that after the Second World War, exactly in 1945, the first Society for Family Gardens was reactivated. Its main role was to develop the plots. One of the allotment gardens complex set up in that particular time was ‘Jutrzenka’.
What distinguishes this place from others? The owners of the allotment gardens have adapted the plots with big heart and passion for what they’re doing. All the gardens are beautifully maintained, and the attention to details makes the visitors’ heads spinning. I’ve never suspected that on such small pieces of land one could create such magical spots. Despite being situated in the city, which is located in one of the most industrial parts of Poland, the allotment gardens ‘Jutrzenka’ allow its visitors to feel like on holidays, thanks to their lush greenery and forests surrounding the complex.
I also got to know that the owners of the allotment gardens are eager to take part in various kinds of contests, that’s why they try to create unique and unusual places, which could certainly be appreciated by the jury responsible for choosing the winners in this kind of contests. I was truly surprised by the resourcefulness of the plot owners, who besides planting beautiful, colourful and sweet-smelling flowers or fruit trees, decided to add some extra features such as summer houses resembling mountain cabins, windmills, garden statues or other practical equipments used for leisure time activities.
What can young people do there? There are really lots of possibilities! From sunbathing and reading books to spending time actively in the company of family and friends playing board games or grilling.
Making use of the good weather, I’m coming back to my umbrella drinks … I wish you wonderful holidays!
See you around!
Yours,
Passion Piece

In India summer sucks. Mostly it makes people ill.. Though I love your pictures.. The flowers, the garden, the swing is lovely..
In Poland summer is one of the best times of the year, people don't get sick too much. That's great that you like this garden. :)
The background is beautiful for images! I would like to travel to Poland one day.
Hope you'll find some time to visit Poland in the future. :)
What a neat place! This sounds like a great place to visit and relax. I work in a greenhouse and I love gardens - this would be fun to check out.
It's an amazing place to visit. Working in a greenhouse must be a great job to do. :)
This is absolutely beautiful! Seems like a great place for relaxing! I don't have a green thumb, so I love visiting places like this when I get the chance!
I also don't have a green thumb, I'd destroy even a cactus. Good that there are such places to visit! :)
So beautiful! Looks like such a lovely place to relax.
It is a wonderful place to relax! :)
How beautiful! This makes me miss helping my parents with their garden on my summer vacations as a kid.
This kind of memories are the best ones. I also helped a little bit in the gardens of my relatives. :)
This is a really great garden! It would be really fun to make this happen!
It's always great to have some green space near your home. :)
The gardens are really beautiful. The idea of the family gardens is a good cultural practice. I hope the younger generation will continue to maintain the tradition.
I also hope that this tradition will be maintained in the future, as family gardens are wonderful places to hang out with family and friends. :)
What an amazing garden. I've always dreamed of having a garden big enough to have a BBQ and grow lots of fruit and vegetables in too.
Many people cannot afford to have such a garden, but family allotment gardens are a great solution to this problem. :)
So pretty!
Thank you! <3 <3 <3
My youngest is so into this kind of thing that I'd never get him back inside. :) I think it's a great area to play games too, like you suggested.
You're right! Kids enjoy such places as they can do there whatever they want to under the guidance of their parents. :)
Wow! This is such a wonderful garden, so perfect place for different family occasions, I love everything in this place!
I'm so happy to hear that you like this place too! :)
I love the idea of shared community spaces for gardening! And what a gorgeous space!
It's a good idea, especially in big cities where people lack green space! :)
Looks gorgeous and peaceful!
It's super peaceful! :)
Wow chilling out in this place with those gorgeous plants and flowers around must be like in heaven. The place looks wonderful, and I hope it stays that way.

I love flowers and this garden has more than enough of them, therefore I absolutely adore this garden!
The owners try to make this place look special and unique, that's why they plant a great selection of flowers there. :)

Such a gorgeous place to be! I would love to do something like this with my family!
Hope you'll have a chance to visit such a place with your family one day! :)
That is SO cool!!!! We could really use something like that here in Brooklyn, though I'm sure it would cost a pretty penny. Still, it'd be nice to have our own space to grow a garden and have a BBQ!!
I bet that Brooklyn must be an expensive place! Hope you'll find a solution and your own spot to relax! :)
What an amazing outing for a summer day! I love spending time outdoors, enjoy each other's company and the fresh air.
These are the best things about such places! :)
This is really a very nice place want to visit there someday!
Hope you'll have such a chance in the future! :)
What a great way to spend the summer time! So many beautiful flowers and a peaceful little corner!
The owners of this place are really lucky to have such a venue to relax in the summer months. :)
The garden is beautiful. I have had a terrible time this year with my own garden but my roses are doing really well!!
I'm glad that despite all these problems your roses are doing really well! :)
Nice place to relax. Your images show the pleasant environment there.
The pictures are the best proof of the reality there. :)
This looks like a heavenly place to me. I would love to visit this place someday for sure. Stunning pictures too
It's a really heavenly place, which allows you not only to relax, but also to enjoy the nature. :)
Those lilies are elegantly gorgeous. Does flox bloom in summers there? In India, they bloom in Autumn. In summers most trees bloom and lilies are found in many places. We mostly enjoy juicy fruits here during summer.
I don't really know if it blooms in summer here, probably yes. :) Summer in India must also be very beautiful! :)
Love that the owner of the place puts love to the flowers and the place itself. Such beautiful place to relax.
You need to put lots of love in gardening to get such beautiful flowers. :)
What a cool post! This place looks amazing. I feel a bit at peace just looking at it through the screen. Thanks for sharing! :)
It was my purpose to make the readers get the feeling of the place through looking at the pictures. :)
I have never had much luck with planting or building a garden but your passion and photos encourage me to keep trying!
Actually, it's my friend's garden ... I don't have a green thumb and I destroy everything! :D
What a lovely garden! I love the fancy chair.
The chair is the best there! So comfy! :)
What a fabulous idea! I wish every city or at least every state had an opportunity like this.
I don't know how it looks like in the USA, but in Poland it's a long lasting tradition. :)
This is absolutely stunning! I'm so envious of people who are able to maintain such beautiful outdoor spaces. Definitely a goal for my home.
I'm also envious of such people! Hope you'll get your beautiful garden one day! :)
Those gardens are so very beautiful. I love it when they make a place like that which is pristine and beautiful.
These allotment gardens are the most beautiful I've ever seen. :)
